Portage Creek

As most of you know, the two of us really got into kayaking late last Summer. Mark's always been into it, but this is a new hobby for me. Last summer we did quite a few lakes but no rivers and I've been telling Mark that I need more of a challenge - I get bored easily and with a river, there's a destination that I've got to get to rather than just floatin around. Well, for Mark's bachelor party they went canoeing down the Pine River up north so I told Mark I wanted to give that a try. He's all for it, but said I've got to kayak some baby rivers to get used to the current first. So, this past weekend I kayaked my first river and Mark said I'm ready for the big ones now! :) We had a great time and the weather was perfect...but, we took Sail along and this pup - I tell ya. Last summer we went to a lake and Mark and I were loading the kayaks into the water while Sail was just standing on the dock. All of a sudden we hear "SPLASH!" behind us and Sail had jumped in. Well this time, we took him with us and he was riding with me but everytime Mark would paddle by us, Sail would want to jump to him. Mark finally ended up taking him and let him go stand out on the edge of the kayak like Titanic! Well all of a sudden, off went Sailor into the water. He must think water is concrete or something and he hasn't learned yet. So, half way down the river we had a wet, shivering pup!! We ended up drying him off with our sweatshirts and paddled quick to get to the end! He'll catch on eventually...maybe.
