Our First Post!

Welcome to our new blog!!!! For those of you who faithfully get and read our updates, sorry we won't be doing those anymore. We decided this would allow us to get with the times, update more frequently and….it just seemed like more fun!

As for what's new with us – we’ve lately adopted the name “The Michifornians”…we’re living in Michigan, but wishing we were still in California!!!! No, we love that we are back with family, settled into our home and out of the Navy, but wow – this weather…we’re sick of it. Everyone has been glad to inform us that we’ve come back for “one of the worst winters in several years!!!” OH GOODY!!! Who knows where God will lead us next, but for now, we are trusting that for some reason, he wants us in 20 degree weather with 3 feet of snow!

Mark is doing very well at his job at Duncan Aviation. He recently switched to 3rd shift which has been an adjustment for us. The way Duncan does their shifts though, 3rd shift is 4 ten hour shifts so you end up with 3 days off on the weekend. Overall, we’re finding that we end up with more time together than we were. Recently at his work, things got a little slow so Mark and a couple other guys decided to re-paint one of the toolboxes in the hangar. One of the guys had the idea to paint the US insignia on it but they didn’t know how. Luckily, Mark had been to classes in the Navy where he had been taught how to do it. The paint job is modeled after an old WWII fighter plane called a P-40. Pictures are attached; this took them about four days to complete.

As for me, I’m still in school and it’s a day by day thing for me. Unfortunately, I’m learning more and more everyday that the profession I’m in is a very worldly career. In the past week or two, though, God has given me several definite examples of how he’s using me as a light in this field, which has been reassurance I have needed. Even yet, it’s not easy and definitely has its trying days. The overall work I am really enjoying and if all goes as planned I will be graduating in July. Other than that, I’m just waiting for summer!! There is so much I want to get started on with our house but it’s just too cold!! I’ve got about four projects I want to do this summer to the house and I can’t wait to get out in our garden! I was always so envious of the women at the Target Garden Center out in California who were always buying flowers to go home and plant when all I had was a cement patio…now I have a yard, but it’s covered in 3 feet of snow!!

The animals are good – they’re constant comic relief and are tons of fun. Sailor will be two this year and Emma will be three.

Well, I guess that does it for our first post but stay tuned for more!!! Oh, and please post comments – we would love to hear from you!!!!

  1. Hi kids, nice blog. Our cat skipper sleeps on his back, also. I thought it was a unique, but I guess it is typical.
Nice work on the painting Mark.

    Stay warm,
